AN INTERVIEW WITH HIP & HEALTHY FOUNDER, SADIE REID | MARCH 2017

Sadie, tell us a bit about Hip and Healthy and how you came up with the idea….

Hip & Healthy was born out of a desire to fill a gap in the market for stylish and beautifully curated health, fitness and lifestyle content that inspires readers to become the best versions of themselves. It was very soon after Hip & Healthy launched as an online wellbeing magazine that the wheels were set in motion to get the digital activewear store set up. The decision to incorporate the retail element was an easy one because readers kept commenting on all the images that we shot to illustrate the articles asking us where the clothes were from. They were all from far-flung super stylish sportswear stores (think Australia, LA and New York) and that’s when we realized that we could bring our curated selection of the best performance-wear across the globe to our audience here in the UK. We were the first online luxury multi-branded sportswear retailer and it’s amazing to see how the market has grown so much.

We know you’re an avid runner, what are your favourite activewear brands for working out in?

Varley for its look and feel, LNDR for supportive sports bras and Falke for all its running accessories.

As you know, the wellness industry has in the last few years really picked up in London. What trends do you think we will see more of this year?

Swimming | Community-based workouts | More of an emphasis on relaxation and anti-anxiety exercises

Which people inspire you most in the industry and why?

There are too many to choose from. I’m inspired by the girls I work with every day. As well as all the usual suspects like Ella, who’s built an incredible brand, Maddy Shaw, who remains positive and lovely in every situation, my sister (Naturally) Sassy’s determination from such a young age has always been incredible.

As a mum and business owner, what are your secrets for your success?

Organisation is everything!

For anyone looking to start a company, what 3 pieces of advice would you give to them?

Don’t try and make it perfect before you put it out there or you’ll never put it out there.

You don't have to quit your day job straight away. I worked at Conde Nast for a year whilst I was doing Hip & Healthy on the side.

Be bold with your ambitions.
